A seven pack today featuring the two main players in the East Coast freight business, Norfolk Southern and CSX. Norfolk Southern is headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia and CSX in Jacksonville, Florida.
First up, NS 3467, an EMD SD40-2 built in December of 1978 as Burlington Northern BN 7118, then going to CIT Group/Capital Finance as CEFX 7118, then being purchased by NS in August of 2011.
Another NS EMD, this one NS 722, an RP-E4C. It started life in May of 1972 as a GP38AC for the Southern as SOU 2834; then on to NS 2834 until being rebuilt as the current configuration.
Moving on to CSX, we have CSXT 5401, a GE ES40DC. Originally built as an ES44DC in January 2007, it's horsepower was downgraded into it's current model.
CSXT 6553, an EMD GP40-3 that was originally built as a GP40-2 in September 1972 as Richmond, Fredericksburg, & Potomac's RFP 144, then becoming CSXT 6396 after the merger/takeover, and eventually being rebuilt into the current setup.
Another GE ES40DC, CSXT 5399, which was built as an ES44DC in June, 2006.
Moving on to something totally different, we have CATS 102, a Siemens S70 for the Charlotte Area Transit System in Charlotte, North Carolina.
This was the first operating electric train I've ever seen and photographed, which I am quite thrilled about.
Another CATS, this one 116, also an S70.
Thanks for looking, and have a great upcoming week!
Nice - I am really impressed and appreciate the fact that these older engines still look and run great - thanks for showcasing this
