Got some real variety here in this batch, so let's go!
First up, NS 1167, an EMD SD70ACe for Norfolk Southern, who are headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.
A not very good shot of CP 8936, a GE ES44AC for Canadian Pacific, whose headquarters are in Calgary, Alberta. Wish I could've gotten a better shot, but I sure wasn't passing up catching this one!
These are also known as "DRF-44" in internal CP nomenclature.
A precariously leaning VGN 135, a GE E33 electric (or EL-C on the VGN) for the Virginian Railway, who were headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia. The Virginian is part of Norfolk Southern today - they even have a Virginian heritage unit!
Also, this was at the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke.
The next few are all on the New Hope Valley Railway.
NHVR 671, a GE 80-Ton built in March of 1945, originally for the U.S. Navy.
This current paint scheme is a rendition of the original Norfolk Southern's - the current Norfolk Southern also has a heritage unit in this scheme.
Another GE 80-Ton, this one NHVR 1686, built in March of 1953 for the U.S. Air Force.
Really cool that it's in the USAF livery.
And another GE, this one is NHVR 399, a 65-Ton built September of 1943 as U.S. Navy 65-00399, then transferred to the USMC as their 289330.
These 3 NHVR GE locomotives are also known as "center-cabs", for obvious reasons.
NHVR 6929, a Budd RDC-9, built as Boston & Maine BM 6929, then on to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority as MBTA 6929.
RDC stands for "Rail Diesel Coach" - essentially a passenger car with a diesel engine and a driver's cab; a bus essentially. There were several types made, with the 9 being powered, but lacking a cab, and to be used as a "trailer", or with an RDC with a cab leading.
Leaving the NHVR now, with Amtrak AMTK 83, a GE P42DC built in May of 1995.
Amtrak is of course headquartered in Washington, DC.
And 2 shots, a "coming and going", of NS 7258.
Originally built as an EMD SD9043MAC, UP 8029, renumbered to UP 3501, it was sold to NS and numbered 7258. Eventually rebuilt into an SD70ACU as seen here. NS and CP have rebuilt many SD90 units into SD70ACU units, as they were prone to problems and breakdowns from new.
7258 was running long hood forwards towards us, westbound out of Pomona Yard, then wyed out of sight and presumably backed onto a train in Pomona Yard later on.
Thanks for looking, and have a great upcoming week!
