First off, today is Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
81 years ago, in 1941, the Empire of Japan staged a surprise attack on the Pearl Harbor naval base, in Honolulu, starting just before 8:00 am (local time). This attack, on the then-neutral US, left a total of 2,335 Military personnel dead, and 1,143 injured, with a further 68 civilians killed and 35 wounded. After the attack, Japan declared war on the US (and the British Empire), which led to the US declaring war on Japan (and by association, Germany and Italy) the next day. After the war, starting in 1946, the "Tokyo Trials" were held, in which various leaders of the Empire of Japan were tried for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and crimes against peace; the Attack on Pearl Harbor was judged a war crime, as it was made prior to a declaration of war, and without warning.
A very short history lesson there, but it gets the point across.
Anyway, for the first time in months, I have another 5 pack of aircraft!
Starting us off today, an unknown make/model plane that's been demoted to a roof decorations.
This plane's peculiar predicament has it situated atop the Eden Mall in Eden, NC, which is a mostly dead mall.
Another unknown plane.
Something that's probably instantly recognizable to anyone who knows anything about the Vietnam War.
A Bell Helicopter UH-1 Iriquois, or more commonly, a "Huey".
A North American Aviation F-86H "Sabre".
There are several variants of the F-86, the "H" being equipped with "LABS" - Low Altitude Bombing System - and designed with nuclear weapons capability.
This example is stuffed and mounted in Goldsboro, NC. As a side note, Goldsboro is a very interesting area - lots of abandoned buildings and weird railroad track work.
An Embraer E175 for United Express, who're headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.
Embraer is a Brazilian aerospace manufacturer.
That's all for today, thanks for looking!
Sad but sobering information there. Thank you
